Jun. 13th, 2006 02:54 pmtanaise: I think i've forgotten how to write short stories.
tanaise: not that I ever really had it figured out
buymeaclue: One word after another.
buymeaclue: (She says, not having finished anything in months.)
tanaise: I do that for a while, and then I realise they all suck
buymeaclue: Hee.
buymeaclue: Yes.
tanaise: and getting past the suck in a short story is nigh on impossible.
tanaise: since in a novel you can pretend the next chapter won't suck.
buymeaclue: Heeeeee.
tanaise: whereas if I'm at 2.5K, and it sucks, I have a limited amount of space to fix it in, and a greater suck-to-words ratio than in a novel.
buymeaclue: Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
buymeaclue: You think this is part of why you get stuck? ;-)
tanaise: I don't know what you're talking about.
tanaise: I don't over think things!
buymeaclue: :-D

In unrelated news (though actually part of what the rest of our conversation was about), this Keane song seems to be about a russian fairytale, which is actually what I thought the first time I heard the album name (Beneath the Iron Sea). Or maybe the second time. The first time might have been some weird locomotive graveyard. But it has a totally Russian fairytale/folk art cover, and the song is about not having a heart becaue it's buried somewhere out of reach.
*figures out something in a story just by typing that.* Don't worry, it's not like the story will actually go anywhere even with that bit.
