I just want a dress. One cute dress. Something I can wear to a wedding without embarssing myself. Eddie Bauer and J.Crew are only selling sleeveless spaghetti strap things. Not going to work. April Cornell looks like it's made for middle aged librarians with an allergic reaction to non-natural products (no offense meant to any middle aged librarians out there, but it's just not a look for me.) Laura Ashley has one very cute dress, even a nice color for me, but of course, it's clearance and out of stock. Grrr. J. Jill--what is this damn obsession with sleeveless?

it's a real problem right now, I think--women that I know who are getting married are having this problem too.

My solution for myself is to wear a sheer-ish silk shirt or jacket over something sleevless/spaghetti-strapped.

I feel your pain!

a) I *need* to wear a bra. Yes, I know, the kiids these days wear spaghetti-strap shirts and dresses with their bras hanging out, but I was raised to believe that only two-dollar whores let their bra straps show.

b) My shoulders are my main self-injury site, so even when I'm not freshly wounded, I have some scarring there.

I've overcome the feeling of whoredom, but it's weird because I have friends who have a constant need to adjust my bra straps so that it's not showing, but if it doesn't bother me why should it bother them??? Really, no adjusting my bra straps unless I give you the go ahead. The other day I was ready to smack this girl for it.

May I rearrange your bra straps for you? :)

Seriously, I try and avoid being blatant about it (ie, no spaghetti straps with bras underneath, but beyond that, if someone can't tell I'm wearing a bra anyways, they clearly need the visual reference of my straps.

You may. But I retain the right to smack you. :)

Yeah, my feeling exactly though. I'm a DD, you think I'm going without one? And I wear tank tops a lot in my more casual lifestyle for convenience sake. Sometimes the bra strap shows. It's a part of life.

Yeah, it doesn't bother me on other people, but I can't do it...

Well, you have permission to adjust my strap too. Don't misuse this power. :)

(she only gets it cause she probably won't use it...)

They do the same thing at larger sized clothing stores. Most women at my size do not want to wear sleeveless clothing! Why?! Why do they make it? And why do they do that to EVERYTHING? Why isn't there a choice? Stupid designers.

It's seriously an issue. I like wearing dresses to work sometimes, but it's frigid in my office most of the time, and sometimes it's colder than that. It's just not fair! So I end up mixing and matching (though I still have an ensemble, as per company policy, heh) so my arms don't freeze.

Heather showed me a link to a really cute store of plus-sized clothing. Umm. Torrid? I think.

Now, at that store, I was too small even for the smallest size, but at another I was supposedly a size 18. Would it kill the fashion industry to standardize sizes? I mean, really?

Apparently it is. The fashion industry is an evil thing.
