Apr. 15th, 2004 03:03 pmSo, it wasn't until I was almost out the door that I forgot I'd meant to put makeup on. And this time I thought it would be good if I actually knew if I was still wearing lipstick by the time of the interview, so I was digging in my makeup bag and I broke (and spilled) an eyeshadow kit. So I'm in a dead rush to be out the door, and I'm scraping it up and trying to avoid getting it on my coat (we remember my coat, right? Navy blue softest wool around and all that?) And I crouched down to clean it up, and pulled not one, but two buttons right .
I left my umbrella and had to go back for it, despite being late, because I knew if I didn't take it, I would get rained on and be very, very unhappy. And then, because I was so terrified I was late, I like, burned rubber getting to the bus stop, and I got there with 10 minutes to spare (it's not that it's a very far walk, it's just got a humungo hill in my way, which makes my knees hurt like the dickens, and I always expect it too take longer than it does.) It was spitting down rain--very cold, but not enough to be worth the umbrella--at the bus stop, and the bus was 10 minutes late.
And the bus was late getting into the station, and then I had to walk, and it was *so* cold and *so* unhappy, and I was almost late to my interview because I was frozen unto death and needed a hot chocolate, but after that, things picked up nicely.
I decimated the tests they gave me (including, amusingly enough, doing better on the advanced Access questions than the intermediate ones.) I wrecked havoc (in a good way) in my interview, despite getting a little too upset a couple of times and nearly crying (I miss being home, and I got a little choked up). The woman I was talking to had several suggestions of places, and they were good suggestions. One I would have totally gone for if it had been temporary, not permenant (Office Manager/executive assistant for the CFO), and both were at a company that sounds just totally kick ass.
And I went to Filenes and Macy's after that, and while I didn't find closed-toe shoes, I found sneakers, which I was also looking for. And! I'd thought they were $69, which was bah, expensive, but they fit right and made my feet feel happy, so I was willing to pay it. And the guy was like, "do you want to open a macys card," and I was like, ooh, 15% off, go me. Only I didn't get approved right there (probably because my credit cards are evil and I think marked down that I'm unemployed which I realize I shouldn't have mentioned, but I was irritated with them for being such total brats.), and I'm like, whatever, cause it wasn't like I'd had my heart set on another credit card, and he rings me up, and it's 10% off, and I'm like, cool beans. And then i sign for them, and they're 45. Woohoo. All the closed toe shoes were either nasty fitting or they had backs. bah! But, my clogs that I wore today are *so* much more broken in than the last time I wore them, so that's also good.
Then I found the Cosi without any trouble at all, and had my very favorite sandwich ever. Oh, and the guy rings me up, and he's like, "8.19." And I've got 7 in my pocket, and more in my purse, so I give him the 7, he *counts* it, puts it in the drawers, and starts giving me change as though I'd given him 9. I was like, "Um, I only gave you 7." And then he thanked me for telling him that. Honestly. Some people.
And then I called my brother, and he told me where to find an ATM for our bank, which apparently I walked *right* by on the way to Macy's, but oh well. And then I was considering walking across the commons and such, but my feet hurt, and my head hurt (oh, and by this time, it was sunny. In fact, by the time I came out of the interview, it was so much warmer, and by the time I came out of Macy's, the sun was shining like butter wouldn't melt in its mouth) from the sun and the pollen, and so I decided that I'd just goof off a little and walk back to the bus station.
I poked around in the Borders, and ever so valiently resisted buying Cory's stories (I told myself no trade paperbacks until I have a job. And preferably an apartment.) I needed to break a twenty for the bus fare, so I stopped at CVS and bought cheerios and milanos, to go with my milk, and I made it back in time for the bus. Actually, I made it back there *way* in time for the bus, which I think is supposed to go out around the hour, 5 after, something like that. It didn't leave until quarter after, and then scared me by going some way that was completely unfamilar--I only seem to pay attention to small portions of the trip at a time, so when we went underground, I was so sure I'd gotten on the wrong bus accidentally. And we went on the top of the bridge, which also seemed wrong. I must have been reading at that point. A half hour commute each way, I'm going to run out of books before I get a real job. And we went by the Necco headquarters. blech.
Oh, there's this long stretch of highway that looks like we're commuting through Iceland. It's very neat. I always pay attention for a little bit of it at least.
And while on the bus I got called back (finally) by the stupid temp agency I called yesterday, right away, and never heard back from. Not about the job she'd called about the day before, but I have a job for tomorrow and Tuesday. It sounds amazingly sucky and it pays a pittance! But at least I don't need to be there until 11 tomorrow. And it's Business casual, so go Khakis and a blue sweater. I hope I packed my favorite one.
And I think that's most all of my news. I have had nomail from anyone lately, but I don't see any Say... replies mentioned, so I don't worry about them quite yet, which really means that I have nomail that I'm expecting, so it's okay. Only, you know, no one has written to me out of the blue offering me love. Which is sad.
