Clarion Day 2
Jun. 10th, 2002 08:55 pmWell, I survived the first day. I was really quite impressed. We were talking too much, but other than that, we were mostly good. We didn't make it through all four pieces, but we were good with the ones we tackled. The criting proceedure is, we all sit on couches in a circle. We go around, starting from a different place each time, and changing directions with each story. The instructions were: say something nice. Be specific. Discuss the story, not the person. and don't suggest, just point out. I'm okay with everything but the last--I keep making suggestions anyways. But I'm good, and just make little suggestions, and I'll try and phase them out. And I just make my suggestions on the story, I don't bring them up in the review session. At the end of the individual comments, the visiting writer gets to make comments for as long as they find necessary. And then the author gets to address the points brought up by the criters. It took us 4 hours to get through 3 today, but hopefully we'll get faster as we go.
Oh, and we learned something cool/scary. All stories from Clarion get saved and kept in the library archives. They can't be copied or anything, but we can go and read them. :) 35 years of stories. How scary is that?
