So, they know at work that I'm going to be gone for 6 weeks, and they announced this fact, and why, at a managers meeting. And so one of the managers tells me that everyone was apparently very excited about the workshop, and envious and all. :) Go me! Still the prettiest!

And, after all that whining about my muse, I wrote something today. Not a whole heck of a lot, but a good bit on my scale. 500 some words, in a totally new world. Totally new as in, "invented in the shower this morning." It's flash fiction at the moment, as while the setting is larger than the story I wrote, I'm totally blanking on the plot/conflict/other people. It's called "Firing the Dead" and is a culture with a very elaborate death rite. Yeah, that's pretty much the only thing I know about it too. Thus the not longer bit.

So, Heather made me get this. She's not satisfied with me having two blogs, she wants me to have a LJ as well. :)

Work update

One of the Associate Commissioners wants me *at least* 50% of the time. Which is guarenteed coverage--ie, I can have nothing to do, sit around staring at the wall for up to 4 hours a day, and still have a number to bill to. And he would have taken more time, only I didn't really want to promise more time to just one project. What I love about this job is the flexibility--other RAs don't work on as many projects. So while I complain about having to fix my timesheet to cover a half-hour showing someone how to recover auto-save files, I like the fact that today I'm laying out tables for the Hispanic report, last week I was making corrections for the Quarterly, and last month I was collecting and jiggling survey data for an international data collection project. It sounds like sap for a review or something, but I truly think that working on all these different projects is what makes me valuable for all the projects--I don't get caught up on 'the way' to do everything, but figure things out on my own. Anyways, I'm all excited by this because it's always a problem getting coverage, and besides, hello, someone specifically requested my work on this project. Me! and just me! :) And not just anyone, but one of the biggest of the big dogs upstairs. woohoo!

And, being as I'm so cool, cause it's my birthday, and a boy wants to see some of my writings, I've got super-computer powers which allowed me to update Winamp so that stupid CBBD or whatever it is goes away and stops bothering me, and also to get this nifty program so that you're forced to listen to me ramble all over the place.

Okay, really I've got super computer powers because I broke acrobat, and they had to reinstall it. And then they forgot to take my powers back. But I was good and told the IT guy, so he knows. He made uh-huh type noises, but really could care less. So I rock.
