Mar. 19th, 2009 09:44 amMy mom called me yesterday to say that she's okay. In the most non-okay voice she's had in months. (Okay, not the crying voice that she had on Saturday, just a sick voice) My first thought was "oh my god, how sick was she, and why didn't anyone tell me?" So I'm "Oh my god, what happened?" And she says, "Oh, nothing, I just didn't want you worrying because you couldn't get through." All said in this insanely sick voice ever, so she goes on to say, "I mean, I'm mostly over my cold now, and I was in a car accident on Sunday, but it was nothing."
Oh, mum. The car accident--in which some college bimbo didn't look behind herself while backing out into an alley and t-boned my mother's rental Geo Metro (Barbie Jeep) slightly--was very minor and had no injuries. Poor bimbo really really wanted it to be my mom's fault. To the point of calling the police to come make a real report (instead of letting the insurance companies determine at-fault, and then giving him completely different story (Bimbo was stopped in the alley when my mom ran into her. I'm not sure how this would involve the side of my mom's car being all banged up, but you know. I said, "Mum, if you were careening wildly down the alley sideways, i think you definitely were at fault.")
Oh, in an example of where I get my sense of humor from, my mom said she (mom she) asked the police officer's name, to write it down, and he said, you know, "Patrolman Smith." and she said, "Well, isn't that a lucky coincidence." (She didn't say, but I assume he didn't get the joke.)
When my mom's phone is off the hook/busy for ages, and her cellphone is off, I call her at work which does double duty in a) making sure she's been at work and b) telling her/her secretary to tell her to hang up the phone, which is why she'd called me yesterday. I'd been trying recently to tell her that I can't make my cousin's wedding (that I'm not even sure I'm invited to, of course, cause the wedding is in August). (Seriously, a whole summer full of weekends, and the only two weddings I have even a chance of going to are on the same weekend. Different days, but still not enough to help. :)
