Aug. 27th, 2002 01:21 amOkay, so the wedding. It was my best friend since 2nd grade getting married. It was the third wedding I've gone to since memorial day weekend. It was the second formal one, the third religion. The first one I've ever been in. It was very fussy and formal by my standards--and fancy Jewish, so we couldn't even bring breakfast to the temple and I starved nearly to death till the boy half of the couple we were staying with showed up with muffins which I ate standing by the car. It would have to be a morning wedding. We had to show up by 9:30, which meant we had to shower, dress and primp by 9. three of us, effectively one shower. Of course, we get there, and there's no bride. We were staying with a friend of theirs, not at the hotel, so we were basically clueless as to when the bride was going to show up. She finally showed up, and we got to help her get dressed, just like bridesmaids are supposed to! Plus, the attendants' gift (a Leatherman with our initials engraved on it) was put to use fastening the petticoat's hook completely shut so there wouldn't be any danger of it parting company during dancing or anything. It was all cool. :) I had to check my bag coming back just because of it. And then we all went for pictures. Which were beautiful and outdoor and all, but it rained the night before and the trees just shed water every time we were all clustered under them. At times it looked like there was driving rain, but just where we were. Everyone's dress/suit survived just fine. Oh, and I sunk into the ground every time I moved. up to my heels. I swear most of my calf pain is from wobbling around trying to keep from wiping out completely. I stepped on my hem repeatedly. Had mudstains and such before the ceremony even started. :( but at least no one stares at your hem. I had no idea that Jewish weddings required nearly 2 hours of standing around, or I would have shopped around more for shoes, cause my sandals hurt so badly I couldn't think of much else for the majority of the time I was standing up in front of everyone. I thought for sure I would end up crying by the end of the ceremony, just because my feet hurt so badly. But I didn't. The bride nearly did--she was blinking super fast. I'm such an evil person--I was totally rooting for her weeping by the end of the ceremony.
whee.
