I just read "Walking in Circles before Lying Down" and it was *excellent.* Makes up for any number of bad romances, except maybe the one with the hyenas. It was the last of my afternoon book kick (starting with The Witch of Clatteringshawe, then moving on to Avalon High, then concluding with this one.

it wasn't the best book ever. But the basic premise (a woman with bad luck in relationships but good luck with dogs ends up, after she kicks out a boyfriend, finding that her dog is talking to her) was very good, the execution of the idea, while a little sloppy at times--too many framing devices of sorts--she's writing a novel, she's being life coached, her sister keeps telling her not to write a book about her, all of which remind you that it's a book, which I disapprove of in books in general, was still ultimately good, and the voices of the dogs were pretty much perfect. Brainless, in an instinct-driven way, but with some very smart bits and good lines. (also, the differences in voices between say, the main pit-bull cross and a sweet golden retriver puppy was nicely done, and they were personalize without being overly anthropomorphised. Possibly even a little overly cannised. (Every time the main character cries or gets otherwise upset (such as angry) her dog brings her something to throw for him. Cause it will make her feel better.
