Nov. 7th, 2006 01:17 pmI voted first thing (my definition may not match other people's) this morning. One of my housemates was doing the post vote check-in. I wasn't sure about voting in most of the races, since I knew nothing about anything in them, but then it turned out most of the races were unopposed democrats, so that made it easier. Oh, and my surprise of the day was that one of our senators (Kennedy, not Kerry) was running for relection. Guess he must have been pretty sure of himself, as I don't think I saw a single ad for him.
Back to the connish stuff
I don't think I have many, if any, photos of the con. I do have one of the skylight with birds on my cellphone--we'll see when that one posts. And I may have a few more, but my camera had to surrender its batteries so that my flight home could have music, and I haven't recharged everything yet, so I can't check.
Oh, here we go:

I went to one reading (Jeffrey Ford, "The bedroom Light), and one panel (The Judging one--people give them books! And not just the horrible bad ones from the free shelf at their job.) THat was enough. I went for mexican food twice, had one cider the whole weekend (which I'm told is why my flirting sucks, and I should spend all cons slightly tipsy.), and argued with people over less than vital things (why I don't sub my stories more places, how much the Avengers movie ROCKS, if pumpkin ice cream is good. All of my examples are with the same person. I must like arguing with him.) I hung out in the bar a fair bit, at parties, and in the coffee shop area. When I couldn't find people, I'd sit somewhere visible and do cross stitch until they found me. I only have a very little bit left to do on it. And I have to do the rest of the scarf, but the pig is making me cranky, so I'm making my mom redo it before I stitch it.
My flight home was easy and uneventful, thankfully. We'd stood in the airport discussing flights that weren't fun in the past, but this one was okay. We also stood in the airport discussing playing Mafia about 4 feet from a security station. I"m not sure why it seemed like a good idea at the time. But none of us were arrested, so it's all good.
Oh, and I had pumpkin ice cream thanks to first-time novelist, David Schwartz. He had a religious experience disguised as Oreo ice cream, from what I could tell.
Back to the real world.
The headphones that don't work at all for me
I hate trying new things. The only *only* thing these things had going for them was better sound than the ones I usually use and prefer and want to replace. (My hearing is bad enough that the only way I can tell when things have better sound is when familar songs confuse me because I try to figure out where the strange noises are coming from, and they turn out to be part of the song--realise that I have never heard most of my recent music on anything better than a $10 pair of headphones or maybe a cheap stereo.)
Oh, and my boss told me to set up a meeting with him (tomorrow 3:30-4) and to know in the meantime that he recognizes, apprieciates and values my work. As other people have said, I like it when people value me with MONEY!
