tanaiseMy reward for having revised most of Company before 10:30 was that I got to take a bath and read Perfect Skin, which I took out of the library because I walked past it on the shelf yesterday and was reminded that I apparently wasn't sensible enough to bring my copy of it up here. (I have ZigZag Street, but that's not quite the same.) So I lounged around for an hour and read about 90 pages. I always take my time when I'm reading this one, because I love it so.
I love love love Perfect Skin. I love it more than one should love a book. I would marry this book. If the book was already married, but his wife was out of time, I would fool around with the book. Even if I knew they weren't really having problems in their relationship.
I always want to quote chunks of it to people, but the problem is that I know so much of the humor is context, so you wouldn't get why someone singing "Mashed pumpkin" to the tune of the Lemonheads "Into Your Arms" is quite as funny as I always find it.
In a related note, I was trying to come up with an equivalent for 'ktnflag,' the email address of one of the love interests in the story. I did used to call myself Casey for a long time, so "kcn-something" could work, but "kcnokie" is too close to nookie, which would make it just a duplicate of www.nearlynakedcelia.com, and "kcndarwin" sounds to me more like a literary novel about someone rediscovering themselves through "The Origin of the Species." So I can't be a crazy cat lady just yet, not until I get a cat with a proper name.
