Oh, the cute little rose bush I got in DC is dying. like, DAID. I'm still hoping maybe it will suddenly perk up, but at this point all the leaves have fallen off, I think. It was unhappy upstairs in my bedroom and the bathroom, but I figured in both cases it was getting too cold (this was the middle of the freezing cold raininess) so I moved it down to the dining room windowsill and now all the rest of the leaves fell off. stupid thing! Get better! I've got to look at it tonight and see, but it was going to be my control plant for getting a jasimine tree (which I really want, and I found one down on Cambridge steet) because better to kill a $6 plant than a $60 one. (actually, the rose may have been $15, come to think of it. Poor rose. The last time I bought one (from the same place) the cat ate all the leaves (making disgusted cat faces all the while since they prickled his tongue), I put it away to get better, which it did, then brought it back down into the general population, and the cat ate all the leaves again. This is why I hate the cat.)

Anyway, I'm hoping that the rose will get better because I want to be a good flower mommy and get my jasmine tree for my bedroom. I thought maybe it was shell shocked from moving from DC greenhouse to MA coldhouse via the airplane ride, but it may be terminal.

Are the roots potbound perhaps? Putting it in a bigger pot with a bit of manure might do wonders. Then water it and perhaps put a large transparent plastic bag on it to get a bit of a greenhouse effect. [livejournal.com profile] podling might have more and better advice.

Roses need a lot of water, maybe it was drying out?

I gave it loads and loads. I read the little tag in it which said 'need to be kept moist' and was doing that for a while. before it started dying on me!

But I've discovered that I love the smell of Jasmine so much that I'm just going to have to buy one. (or steal one from the public gardens...)
