There are silver linings:

He mentioned her almost instantly in conversation, so I didn't get blindsided 6 weeks later by a chance comment.

I managed to ask him to come get pizza without saying anything stupid, doing anything stupid, or having him snub me.

Interacting with boys is still good, even if they're taken.
