The HS I attended years ago currently has 9 asian, 20 black, 16 hispanic, and 568 white students enrolled in it. And it's the most diverse in the county. The other HS has 1 NA/Alaskan, 4 asian, 1 black, 8 hispanic, and 751 white students. :-) Here, check out your own school: http://nces.ed.gov/ccd/schoolsearch/

My school was private so it's not on there, but it was probably the least diverse I've ever seen. When they did the pictures for the school brochure they dragged the only Asian in the school (she was adopted from Korea) and one of the only 2 black students in the school to pose for it. There were 2 Hispanic students that I remember, but they weren't there at the same time. As horrible as it sounds, moving to the South was an eye-opener to me. I had never been in close contact with black people before. They just didn't exist where I grew up.

The HS my son attends is Amer Ind/ - 5, Asian - 238, Black - 67, Hispanic - 155 and White - 2,136. that's pretty diverse I think for an "urban fringe HS on the edge of a large city". I don't think many Alaskans make it down here to Houston Texas though. Probably can't stand the heat ;-)

another thought - they don't include Middle Eastern or SE Asian/Indian students on these statistics. There are ALOT here because of the oil industry.
