So back in march I got all excited about doing a sampler on linen with silk thread.

It's started now. About 6 hours of work, and I'm up to

Not very impressive, I realize, but oh my GOD. It's black linen evenweave, and I'm stitching over two threads. Which means it's just normal looking fabric, so stitching takes extra long as I find each set of threads I need to cross without getting three or just one. Watching TV while Cross-stitching is all that is keeping me from going completely blind from staring at imaginary holes in black fabric. It's also useful for making sure that I'm varying focal lengths regularly, so my eyes don't go crazy with hurting. I pop in something I've seen before, so it doesn't matter if I'm not watching steadily, and my attention goes back and forth between it and the cross-stitch. It may make me make more mistakes on occasion, but I'm okay with fixing things now and then.

The others I'm currently working on are a modification of this, namely without the beehive, but with all Caron Watercolours thread, instead of just for the leaves. So actually, the sampler isn't the first time I've invented colors to match a pattern.

And the last one that I"m seriously working on at the moment is this, of which I've maybe done half of the upper right quarter. You don't want to know how long it's taken for me to do it. I think there are probably not more than 10 or so stitches of the same color touching. While I work on it, I end up leaving all the long strings across the front, as I do 10 of one color, 10 of another, 5 of a third, and then back to the original--uses less thread to skip across the back, but if I leave them dangling in the back I get them all sewn in the wrong places. It's soo pretty though. You should know that the fabric for that one is powder blue. Notice exactly how much powder blue is in the picture?
