Oh, such weird dreams last night. Mostly they were sort of mutations of Clarion dreams--lots of people from Clarion. I think they made me sleep badly--I didn't get any less sleep than I'm used to, but I'm so tired today it's not funny.

Among the bills my roommate should have sent me while I was at Clarion was my rejection from ROF. Blue form of death. Bah. Lightning quick even--subbed the 29th of May, rejected by the 17th of June. It probably needs a rewrite anyways. It was one of my submission stories, so I've got some notes from the various teachers lying around to incorporate into it. And since so many wanted her to end up with the merman, I have to play around with that a little more, make it more obvious that it is just as bad a choice to stay under the water in her condition as it is to live on land without getting fixed. And of course, people would probably like more of their god damned settings. Bastards, all of you. I hate you all. Making me clutter perfectly good stories with all sorts of insignifican details. :P

Yeah, I guess I wondered why it was such a bad choice too. But then again, in real life there are usually only mediocre equivalent choices for the most part, or bad choice versus really bad choice, so I think I just was thinking of that and that there could be more far-reaching consequences of either action that I, as the non-fictional readerperson, wouldn't know.

But you wanted to improve your story anyway, I know you did.

And you should hate us all anyway. ;)

It's a bad choice because she's running away from making the decisions she needs to make. She's not getting better, she's just going somewhere else. When talking with Karen and Tim, they suggested giving her more of a psychological barrier, making her unconscious need for the damage as punishment a little more obvious--she'll have been driving in the accident, or have just swapped seats with someone who will end up dead. So she'll have a stronger guilt reaction, instead of just grief.

Oh right. I can see that. Escape is the easy way out, even if it's not the right way. I think a lot of stories cop out on that, so it's good you're going the other way. In my opinion, anyway.

Yeah, that's what I was trying for, that staying is harder for her than leaving would be.

There's just no taking the easy way out with you, is there?! ;)
