Jul. 8th, 2004 02:24 amSo, Nate came for dinner tonight. I made a total freak of myself fretting about him getting to the house on time, and actually called him twice. I got him the second time, as he walked up Chestnut, and got up the stairs to the door in time for him to say, "are you going to...oh, there you are." I let him in and he hugged me--I forget that he hugs, because my family, other than my mother, has never been very touchy. But I do like getting hugs, so this is good. I took him down to the kitchen, and the plus side of him being a little late (he'd said 6, and got there more like 6:20 or so) was that B had finished clean up, so after I'd introduced him around the room, B and him got into a conversation for a bit while I blitzed through the mail Nate brought with him. I got a locus, a college magazine, and a magnet with my home'k'oming dates on it. October looks to be rather busy this year. I just really hope I have the money for it all. Dinner buzzer sounded, and we all removed to the dining room.
Dinner: Cold orzo with zucchini-almond pesto, warm orzo with a creamy red chard sauce(?/dressing?), and a fancy salad (radicchio and oak leaf with orange slivers and something else, probably roasted walnuts). and roasted garlic. Oh, and the warm orzo had roasted garlic in it as well, I think. I love roasted garlic. I have mentioned this to him in the past.
This was also possibly the first time I've had to salt his food, which I always think is a sign of cooking excellence.
Dinner was hysterically funny. B was in rare form, and we traded jokes a few times, and he beat me to punch lines a couple of times as well. I wasn't sitting next to him but he sat across the table and up a few seats--within my end of the table so I didn't have to strain to be part of the conversations or jokes.
Nate talked with several people about his job, discovered that the previously mentioned freaking hot boy who doesn't look 30 was one of Nate's camp counselors--he'd mentioned the guy before, but never his name since I met this boy, so I wouldn't have recognized it. Lots of joking around, after-dinner tea, and then off to tour the house.
he mocked the elevator. He admired the house. Kept saying, "wow, it's really big (it better be, we've got 20 people living here.) We stood around and talked a bit more, and then he had to leave, so I walked him to the metro. I told him that he should come to dinner whenever he wants, just to warn me ahead of time, and he said he'd come again soon, and asked if he could bring a friend. So yay! And then I told my mom about the evening and tried not to project things that weren't there into it, or to go with the more outlandish interpretations, but I can't really help it.
And I just wrote an email and sent it off, and it's way late and I have to be at work in under 7 hours without the help of a chat with Chai boy, damnit. And that's just at work, that doen't count the hour and a half before that when I get up. So I'm off. Dinner tomorrow is Chinese food with
mabfan and his wife. I haven't had chinese in ages. Oh, and I'll have to find brookline. Luckily I have directions.
