One of my friends here, her brother's getting over a really really bad car accident from 2 years ago. he's still in bad shape--in a wheelchair, talks but not well, all that. But he's been getting better. and she just called from the hospital because he's seizing and they can't control them. And I'm so useless in this sort of situation. I told her I'd tell work why she wasn't in, and I told her to give her mother a hug from me, but what else do you say? "I'm so sorry?" "I'm so very very sorry?" "That's awful, I can't believe it, I'm so sorry?"

But then, I am remarkably unempathic.
