tanaiseWe're experiencing technical difficulties with the CD burninator. I thought it was sworded, but thanks to the wonders of the Internet (all hail the wonders of the Internet!), I've also figured out why, and either will fix it or buy new CDs tomorrow. I'm puzzled, though, since my CD burninator is an IDE CD R/RW 8x4x32, and I can't tell if that's a name or just a description and the name part is missing. We'll see. Ideally, I download a fancy new driver and it's all good. If there is no new driver, I buy CDs that aren't the 80 minute ones, which seem to confuse my poor machine. And since the Gateway website won't tell me anything useful, I am asking the tech support chat. There will be burninating, damn them all! (alas, not tonight. I'm informed by "Gabriel" that my CD-RW is not upgradeable. (The actual solution for my problem was "Use smaller CDs." He never actually said that. What he kept saying was "buy a CD combo drive," which seemed a bit out of place. :) So I'll have to go buy new CDs tomorrow. My brother's computer uses these all right though, so that's something. but still, bah.)
I set up my mom for online bill paying. She laughs when I explain things like this to her. In theory, this would mean that she pays her bills on time. In practice, I suspect this means I will call her, and she will read me the bills, and I will pay them for her. But hey, just so they get paid, right.
My mother was reading the Locus and making fun of the photos. I had to threaten to show her Gardner's nipple, and that still didn't hush her. She mocked the picture of my celebrity boyfriend, but she's right, cause it was a two year old picture, and thus not near as hot as this. I'm considering lobbying Locus for a hotter picture. That might be stalkerish, though. (And everyone who keeps saying that he moved to another country to avoid me is mean and I hate you!) Overall, she sneers at the genre, and thinks auctorial mystery is a good thing. There are some hotties though, and I'm instructed to lose the 40 pounds before I become a big name author (I'm all about losing it, but . She also says I have the best red hair in the genre. :)
How sad am I? I keep getting so excited when I realize that soon I shall have a job. Not because of the money, since I have had some money here, and it's not like there's really all that much to spend it on. but I'm all excited because I'll be *working*. I have missed working so much. I hope I get an interview without much wait, or I'll go crazy. And I should have asked my brother what the temp agency he worked with was, and if he recommends them. If I got health insurance, I think I'd love being a long term temp, since that's essentially what I was at ESSI. 2 months on a project, and then zoom! gone! and on to the next. Oh, I hope there's good places up there, and I hope I get interviews.
