I read the obit when it came out, and laughed. They had to print it with a disclaimer so people knew he'd written it himself. He was one of my dad's co-workers, and so I knew him most of my life. He was tall and skinny and had long white hair, and wore jeans and cowboy boots and looked like a poet or a cowboy. His son Tom was one of my dad's biking buddies. He smoked. He drank. He came to the keggers we'd have for my dad's birthday and sit on the sidelines for the volleyball games. He was an in-between age. Older than my parents, but not as old as my grandparents (thus his son is something like 15 years older than me or so). He was a really memorable person, and he reminded me of my grandfather in some ways, and I was very sorry to hear of his death.
