Books Read
Mar. 22nd, 2004 12:22 amyesterday, while we were driving up to the crafts store near Williamsport, I called my brother and asked him if he would back me up if I claim to be an orphan once I move to Boston. He agreed fast enough that we suspect he already has been claiming that. :)
Books read/finished today: The Gate of Ivory (technically today, but really just before I went to bed last night, at which point I didn't want to start the second book), Tiger Burning Bright (a re-re-read. Not as good as it was before. I don't mind Misty's characters, but too much exposure to them bores me.), about 100 pages of the Knight (it's very very good, but I keep trying to not read it all at once because then I'll be done), The Wild Blue and Grey (because my brother was watching some history channel thing about one of the wars and they were talking about planes, and I remembered that I'd meant to read it recently and that my brother might enjoy it, so I read it this afternoon, ). And maybe 50 pages of The Anxiety of Everyday Objects (from Jenny) And that brings me to now. I'm torn between more of The Knight, or reading my Elizabeth Scarbourough book that I'm about a quarter through the re-read. Or there's a stack of books under the desk here, including books from Jaime and other books, and there's the other book from Jenny if I can find where my mom put it. I also read a few stories in an Analog today (it's the issue with James Gunn and Joe Haldeman and Jerry Oltion and some others I can't remember), but it's impressive how much I still really like that magazine. It was my favorite, after Asimov's stopped printing as much fantasy back in the day.
Or I could just work on my cross-stitch, since that's what I did. Side two is done. I'm going to do sides three and four in a unit now, instead of finishing three and starting four, since I think it will make the work seem like less. 10 flamingos and two trees done, the same to be finished. (This is the mutant tree, since I skipped a row in a coconut, and thus it ended up shorter than it should be. damn thing) And I think I'll find a book in one of the piles to read when I go take a bath in a few minutes. Since the stupid story works but I don't care right now. :) I'll work on it tomorrow. Shun me if I forget. I think I can get it down to 5K or so, and hopefully a lot less nancing about.
I bought a poster frame yesterday, big enough that I could finally put my David Armstrong poster in it.
It's ever so very very pretty, but it's something like 38 by 26, so the 2' x 3' frame is *just* too small. Luckily I remembered to pick up a 27 x 41 frame at the craft store, so it's all good. Well, other than the cat hair trapped in the picture, but I'll clean that up when I live somewhere with less hair. My mother bought a dogs playing poker needlepoint, and now she needs a bigger stretcher frame thing, so I get to call abou that tomorrow. Oh, and oil. we need that too. *adds to list*
Hmm. these metal-free hairbands are highly annoying. It's all well and good that my hair doesn't get caught in them, but most of them break within the first few days I use them, and those that live get picked off by the kitten who knows I stick them behind my pillow when I go to bed at night. (I caught him red-pawed one day). He prefers the unkinked ones. No fun in killing something that's already been weakened, I think.
