The sad thing is, all this lovely jewelry is never shown on people, so it's utterly impossible to tell, for example, how the bracelet is to be worn. (it is a bracelet--it's 3.5 x 2.75 x 4.5 inches) There's some utterly gorgeous metal work, and I could cry for the lack of pictures of how it's worn. Jewelry, after all, is not designed for display on black velvet. It is designed for three dimensions of skin and bones, and thus a necklace that's all angles on a picture might actually look right on a person. There are all sorts of art, and most of them get hung up places and looked at or put on pedestals. but jewelry is to be worn or else what's the point of calling it jewelry?
I love the Memory of Touch so much. It makes me want to write something, but i haven't decided what.
Oh, and the reason why I posted these are that my books from Daedalus came yesteday and I'm so in love with Skilled Work, and wanted to share.

Date: 2004-03-20 10:05 am (UTC)Is the top one the bracelet? It looks to me like one's hand slides through the "building" underneath, with the arm under long base on the top, under all the detail.
A lot of modern jewelry really isn't designed for being worn, by the way. It IS designed for display on black velvet. The reason is that that's how it's show in shows and galleries, so stuff that looks good on but clunky off does poorly both in sales and reviews. There's a similar phenomenon with clothing, too, but that's a digression for another day. :)
