Mar. 17th, 2004 02:45 amThe cat just came in and sat on my monitor and dripped. I was all ew, because I thought it was his nose. But he must have been playing on the porch, as he was melting. Of course, he also made my monitor got all ) ( , which was not amusing. Bad cat! but so cute, with the smudgy nose, and the upside down watching me type.
Lots of things happened on my birthday, including runnings of both the Preakness and the Derby. And VE Day. And the creation of Australian Rules football. And Gary Glitter was born, which I love just because of the way that John Hannah says his name in Sliding Doors. See also this, and this and this. The quote for my day is from 1939. "English apologist C.S. Lewis wrote in a letter: 'The process of living seems to consist in coming to realize truths so ancient and simple that, if stated, they sound like barren platitudes.' " Oh, and according to IMDB, Flaubert, Heinlen, and Sturgeon died, and David Attenborough and Enrique Iglesias was born.
This will help you see if you're cool, or just plain sad.
In the continuing adventures of bags of donation clothing, I'd hidden my hat in a bag of jeans. I've also found several different cute cross stitch books, which reminded me that I could put a pretty little design on my lovely scarf (also refound) or my hat. I do have a pattern to make a bucknell seal on a scarf--I'm thinking of making my dad a scarf with one end that has the real seal, and the other end has the seal he designed which has such heraldic elements as crossed blind people sticks and flying pigs and a bowl of oatmeal. I think he would love this scarf. :) And he needs a new one, since I got him a burberry plaid one in Italy when I was there, as a joke cause i hate the pattern, and he loved it because it's 100% lambs' (or maybe just lamb's, since I don't know how wooly they are. :) wool (for $5. I should be so lucky around here), but now it's all popular, and my dad can't handle that. :) So I should find a nice dark blue lambs wool, and then I can waste-canvas on the seals. :) Oh, and there's a baby bib I need to do with a duck for Jennie's baby boy (Adam Jbara, born fridayish).
And it's back to looking proper out my window again. 7-9 inches of snow we got, I'm told (though we're right exactly above the 5-7 border, so it's probably 7). It was freakish--I woke up 7/8-ish when my mom left for work, which was before it was snowy. And then when I woke up next, it was snowy! and beautiful outside. THis, of course, is because I put my fan back in the window again on monday morning, back when it was 55 and sunny. And because when I'd put it in, I hadn't paid much attention, I'd left it on a setting that makes it turn on automatically regardless of the temperature. THus, last night it was wow, cold, in the kitchen since the fan was upstairs merrily pumping cold air into the house.
Oh, my list of good girl chores for the day: washed all three dogs and all the assorted dog bed stuff, shoveled all the walks and some dog pen, loaded the dishwasher and washed all the pots by hand. I hate washing dishes. hate hate hate. I watered most of the plants--all in the living room but two, I think, which just left topping the dry ones off again for my mom and the kitchen and her room. Oh, and I cleaned the catboxes. And I worked some on the tabletop scarf thing I'm making for my grandmother's birthday. one side is all done but the fancy bits, and I'm at flamingo number 8 (of the 20) and just need to top off the tree yet on the second side. Meh. Hates it, I does. It's too much the same. At least the yarns are pretty. Caron Watercolors (found here, if the site works, which it doesn't now, but I'm ever hopeful), which are pretty hand-made varigated yarns, so the flamingo color shades from pink to peach to orange, and the flamingos look like they're made of sherbert. So pretty. I should take a picture of the thing thus far.
I thought someone was outside rocking back and forth, trying to move in the snow. I figured it was return of the idiot who spent a good half hour doing that the last big snow storm, but I think maybe it was someone plowing the neighbor's driveway. Odd, I realise, at 2 in the morning, but who knows.
