I saw the first trailer I've seen for Cheaper by the Dozen, and currently I am expecting to be very traumatized by that movie. *very*. Cause I love that book, and the sequel, Belles on their Toes. I've read them both repeatedly, and I love them so much that any movie would have a hard time living up to my expectations, but still, this movie looks like it will fail spectacularly. I'll probably watch it just because it has Steve Martin in it, because I'm like that, and it may even be interesting, but I don't expect it will bear any resemblance to the books, and for that, I am sad.

I think the book is so dated that a faithful adaptation would be a hideous flop. I love the books too, but I can't imagine a Hollywood director or producer thinking a direct adaptation would be a good idea.

I take it you've successfully avoided the movie with Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy.

I've seen the trailer three times now, in two slightly different formats, and I cannot figure out if the new Steve Martin movie has anything at all to do with the original book of that title, other than the fact that there are twelve kids... Did someone at the studio think that they'd come up with a clever name without doing their homework? If it turns out that Steve Martin is a Time Motion Studies Engineer or some such, I'll be shockingly disappointed.
