mmm. new addiction. New jack. these are related statements.

First there was Brushfire Fairytales, which I loved for the happiness of the music. I'm not much for happy music (I can't stand The Lightning Seeds for more than one song at a time), but I love Jack. And I tried to stop loving it when I realized it's pot-smoking college student music (for shame, Jaime!)

And then his new one came out, and even though I'm jobless and grumpy and all, I had to buy it. "On and On" it's called, and I love it. I may even loff it. I was going to resist, but Hannah said something about it, and I went to look at it, and I got stuck and couldn't leave. it's been out a month, has 114 reviews, and an average of 4.5 stars. And I expect a certain amount of bias in reviews, but seeing as they also said it was 'more laid back' and other things that where all about what I loved about it, I decided that seeing as I had to buy Harry Potter anyways (I got a share the love discount, it was only right), I'd get new Jack too, and save money on shipping that way. See?

And now I'm in love totally with three songs on it, and love very much several others. The three favorites are Gone, Cupid, and Tomorrow Morning. Gone is very hippie, all 'what's more important, material or spiritual things'. I'm a sucker for hippie ideals, what can I say? Cupid is sort of a love song: "how many times must we go through this/
you've always been mine, woman i thought you knew this"

It's the tone of voice in this one--just perfect. Very tired of repeating himself. :) And tomorrow morning is an answering machine lovesong. two thousand miles but that's all right
ill see you in the morning if that's all right

what would you do if i wrote you a song
would you give me some loving when i get home

There's a couple individual songs on Brushfire Fairytales that I *loved*, but overall, I think I like this album more. I miss a couple of things about him--the surfer/steel drum feel to the songs from the last album. The sorrow in that album--it's about accepting change, about growing up and getting used to things being different. "Losing Hope"
And fact is only what you believe
And fact and fiction work as a team
It's almost always fiction in the end

Even Flake is--not quite bitter, just disappointed.
It seems to me that maybe
It pretty much always means no
So don't tell me you might just let it go

This one's grown up. Not happy with everything, just, understands better why people act the way they do. But it still has a song with a verse that's extended enough to make him pass out in high altitudes (which he apparently nearly did while singing Posters at a concert once. :)

And that's enough babbling for now.
