My godmother had a stroke recently--Friday, I think, but since I got the news as an email forwarded from my dad this morning, I don't know when exactly it was. She's my dad's age, more or less--58, I think. This is borderline very scary and just scary.

I don't know how her condition has changed since the email (I think it's from Sunday) and while the results from that were much better than they could have been, particularly considering how bad it looked on the CAT scan, the first couple days are also the really important days so I don't know if she kept doing better or did worse or what. As of the email, she remembered things, including what had happened shortly before the stroke (she'd called the letterwriter to tell them she wasn't feeling well, and wouldn't make their evening plans, then the line went dead, and the letterwriter called 911), she knew who people were, she spoke okay, though slowly, and moved all limbs. They didn't test walking, reading, or writing.

So that's good, but at the same time, it's very scary--she's the same age as my parents, and now I'll have this extra to worry about with them. My dad (I think) is still in Turkey, so I suspect he's very very shaken by this. She either was a college girlfriend or just a college good friend, but either way she's been an important part of his life for the last 35+ years. My mom I called at work--I felt really bad doing so, but at least the email had good progress even with the bad news--because I didn't want to forget to tell her.
