Jun. 18th, 2004 12:33 amSo, chai boy only works monday through wednesday upstairs. I go in this morning and not only is it nasty kashmiri chai, but there's no cute boy at least to flirt with. but I get a tea (some amazingly mild in a boring way oolong), and the girl there rings it up, and I think, "huh." cause I got iced tea at least once this week, and it was so less. So I read the price boards (which they seem to change around every day lately, and never had prices when I started coming there, in my defence), and discover that lo and behold, what he charges me is *so* not what's listed under the price of a large iced tea.

Dinner: (Rudi, take a break and get a snack now). The basics, of course--burgers, dogs, not-dogs, not-burgers, a big bowl of romaine lettuce leaves, arranged artistically with sliced tomatos in the bowl. potato salad that was mayo based (and thus got too heavy for me to handle before I finished as much as I thought I could manage) with onions and vinegar--very zesty and mmmm. some fancy cole slaw that was chinese--like spring rolls, almost. Sesame and ginger. Mmmmmm. (note the more mmmms.) Oh, and onion relishes (they weren't exactly, but I'll call them that because I don't know what the right word would be). a tomato/purple onion relish, a raspberry/purple onion relish, and an apple/white onion relish. Or maybe the tomato and apples were swapped. I don't really like uncooked onion, so I didn't try any of them. And now I kinda regret it. And desert was blueberry cobbler and peanut butter brownies. The brownies--eh. I don't like adulteration of my brownies. The cobbler, mmm. I love cobblers and crisps. This one, however, was an object lesson in not putting birthday candles in things with a near molten layer. the wax...got lost. I suppose it's not as impressive as yesterday's dinner, but it was still darn good and I'm not going to fuss.
holy moroni. I'd managed to ignore the fact that instead of 40 hour weeks up here they're just 35 (though I tend to work 37.5 because no one has told me not too. So I just did the math, and if I was working at the DC's yearly rate at what appears to be the standard 35 hour work week up here, i'd be making 21.19. Twice my current salary, almost exactly. And andrea and I just did some of the most depressing math I can imagine, figuring out how much money I make or used to make, vs what she actually does make, and all that. and I feel better telling places I was making $18 an hour in DC, as once you convert to the fact that at this place at least there's just 35 work hours in a week, that's what I was making when I left.
My knee's been better lately, except that i stupidly ran across the street today, but I knew office boy was in a hurry, and I didn't want to make him wait, since i wasn't sure if he would. It's mostly okay now--I had to walk fast to keep up with him, and I was *so* mad at myself then. he suggested looking at a rival company to see if they've any jobs open. Which was a good idea--much less paperwork--but no luck there. I need to communicate with the temp agency. I need to revise my resume (blech! i can't write bullet points!). I need...I need a hug, I think.
