(no subject)

I got a really fabulous story idea, or rather squashing together of several other stories ideas, and it was lovely and I worshipped it, and then I tried to actually think about it and it admitted that it was just a shiny idea and there wasn't anything below the surface. Meh. but really, 'sokay. It was being a little bit too preachy as it was, trying to be an analogy to the evil amendment thing, and you know, sometimes you're just better off thinking, "hmm, that could be a cool story" instead of writing it yourself.


I'm pretty sure I've heard people argue that you learn something new from every story that you write, and I'll go so far as to say that you can learn an awful lot even from stories you don't write, whether it's a story that you decide not to do anything with at all or if it's just a story that you realise you're not old enough to write yet. I have a little stack of stories that I plan to come back to periodically, just to see if I'm old enough to write it yet.

I got a bounce from SH yesterday. 32 days with only an extra sentence to save me from the form letter (and yes, I know that exactly as I have a form bounce that got sent accidentally once. :) My sub page looks all impressive, except that all of them could reply at any time, really, so I could get the fabled multiple rejections in one day. (still nothing that compares with the 9 (8?) rejections that someone got, but evil enough for anyone. :) Still no word from Say, FSF has apparently lost my story since they've had it for 13 days, we all know how ROF hates me, Driftwood is too long for Arabella, and the New Yorker, well, I only subbed there because it was one click and it's so cool to say. :)

I have however been reminded that Flawless was pretty close to done, and while it's not really deep or anything, I still love the words in it, and I've a pretty good idea of what I need to do to it, so I may as well see if I can't fix it. I'm not so happy about writing new things lately, but maybe I can clear up some of my backlogged almost done stories and flood the market. ;)
