Reading: Church of Chain and Roses
Jul. 8th, 2002 12:08 amWe had our third reading yesterday. I read Church of Chain and Roses, one of my submission pieces, slightly revised. I really love it, I can't help it, but it's not aging well. I was noticing as I read it places where it needs to be tightened up--it's got this long, melodramatic whiny bit in it. but I still love it. I got nice comments on it afterwards. Leslie, when she critted it found the repetition, "this was a church, once" to be annoying. I really love that though. It's so hard. I know it needs reworked, fine tuned etc, but I love it so much I don't like mucking about with it. It was the first piece I ever felt was finished. I changed my mind later, but for a while I thought it was the best thing I'd ever written. For a while it was the best thing I'd ever written. I've decided recently that Firing the Dead is my most perfect piece though.
