Jan. 30th, 2003 12:05 amKurt Vonnegut is in a car commercial. I think it's for SUVs. Maybe Nissans, but I'm not sure. I'm just traumatized by the whole thing.
I'm finally reading Conjunctions. I'm...4 stories in. John Crowley, Kelly Link, M. John Harrison. I liked the Kelly one the best--it has this piece in the middle of the story about a world that's reached the end of it's time or some such, and it's now going backwards. You're dead, you wake up, go about your day, watch your kids get divorced, get married, date, learn to walk, learn to crawl, to hold their heads up. The doctor stuffs them back up where they came from (say it with me girls, "ow."), etc. You start out married, and end up loving each other more and more till you're just dating, and pretty soon you've never even met. I just *love* that idea, but I can see that it wouldn't necessarily work as a whole story--it could easily get annoying if it was 4K instead of just 1K. She instead uses it as a part of a meta-story. The main story doesn't know it's a story, and it doesn't know it's a story, but it then tells the story of something like the original story, only not quite. Not really. Very good. Very Kelly. But I have lots of other stories in here yet to read, so who knows what tomorrow's favorite will be.
