May. 20th, 2009 10:42 pmI forget that I have plenty of friends who are not writers, and yet read books. I know, this is crazy. Further more, these friends of mine who read books, may not not follow the same people I follow, so there may be people out there who do not know about two books that just came out that people have been saying nice things about all over the place. Oh, wait. Three books.
Greg Van Eekhout (
gregvaneekhout ) has Norse Code out. I plan to pick this book up at wiscon. I would say more about it, except honestly, I haven't much of an idea what it's about because I really like reading books without knowing what they will be about, and this looked like a good opportunity to do so. Based on the title, I'm thinking there's a norse slant to it. And possibly a half naked chick, but that may also be cover designer wishful thinking. I'll just have to be surprised!
Charlie Finlay (
ccfinlay ) has two books out in the last month plus AND one more next month, so this is the perfect time to read the series. If you make each book last two weeks, you won't have to wait at all! Start with The Patriot Witch, and you'll be all set (Note for sports fans: I don't think the book has anything to do with football in New England, but i could be wrong, you should buy it anyway.) This one is going in my travel bag to read at or on the way to or from wiscon.
And Sarah Prineas (
sarah_prineas ) has the second book of her AWESOME Magic Thief series out. I'm a little worried this one won't be as good as the first one, because this one is not dedicated to Maud, but I'm going to read it just the same. (It is dedicated to Theo, so I'm not too worried.) I suggest buying a copy for a child you know, and then reading it before you give it to them. Once you give it to them, you can buy yourself a copy of the first *and* second books, and so everything will work out well. Except for the child, who will have to save their allowance up for it. I am attempting to be good and not read this one immediately, but rather save it for some day I can take my time. I will leave it on my desk for hannah to read while I'm wisconning, if she wants. I will read it when I get back. (Hannah: it has a coded message to us inside it!) (OMG: how awesome is The Magic Thief? It is so awesome that Diana Wynne Jones couldn't put it down. It says so right there on the cover.)
Now, to be fair, I have read only one of these books. But I will read the rest! Plus, I have read short stories by them, and blog posts by them, and I have faith in them. So go, and read the blurbs about them, and buy the ones that sound interesting wherever you buy your books. I will probably talk about them more, once I have read them, so I'll remind you of them again.

Your version makes a lot more sense.
