Compared to my mother, I am tiny. Oh, I suppose my birth mother was probably pretty small too, but my real mother is tall and thin and everything I ever wanted to be when I grew up. She is dark and sleek looking--smooth straight hair, tanned skin, long fingers. My father is tall too, but not so dark. I am small and round and so pale that I practically glow.

Okay. Practically is misleading. I glow. Given the right circumstances, though, it has nothing to do with my paleness, and everything to do with my parents, I glow. I glow when I''m happy or sad, excited or turned on. Any sort of over emotion, and I light up like a light bulb.

When I was little, we moved all the time. I don't know when they must have known what I was, but as far back as I can remember, I was always moving. First with my birth parents, and then with my mom and dad. I thought it was a coincidence with my mom and dad for a long time, until I started noticing that we moved the week after I'd have a fight at work, or a kiss behind the bleachers, or take first place in a spelling bee. One time, people will think it's just their eyes playing tricks. People don't glow, after all. But after the next time, they'll be expecting it. They'll have figured out who do glow.

It is snowing on the common. Or at least it was when i walked to work this morning, and it probably still is. See here and here. They're bad pictures, since it's my cell phone camera into the sun, but even my real camera isn't going to have captured the utter coolness of walking across the common with loud machines roaring and clouds of powder in the air, and everything facing into the sun, so ever so very bright.

I am savvy to the ways of the Oberliners, and thus could say to one of the cooks guests (wearing a random scrawl on his sweatshirt), "Oh, when did you go to Oberlin," for I recoginzed the scrawl as a glyphic flying horsecow (of the Lascauxian art movement), the mascot of my brother's ultimate frisbee team. :-)

(and he then asked me if i was Nate's older or younger sister, for which I thanked him.)
