I panicked for a moment, when I thought it was only 12:15 and I'd already turned in a story, read the stories for tomorrow, watched a game of Cosmic Encounter, and played a game of Settlers. But luckily Dan made us all go back to the lounge and write poetry a line at a time, round robin style. They started out bad and only got worse. It was a blast. we should have been doing this all along.

turned in my last story last night before dinner. (ummm. Pad Thai. I need to find good restaurants around home now). I was first in the box, 6200 words by word's count, 6800 words manuscript count. Guess which one I put on the story? :)

Today after class I went to the archives and read the last of Cory's stories. Oh, fancy! It rhymes. Read all of Ted Chiang's. Was bitterly jealous. Pounced on the one error I could find in all of his stories: there was a chronological grounding problem in Division by Zero. I did triumphant war dance in my head at least. Then I came home and bought the collection from Amazon. I'll give it to my mom, and I'd been missing hard sf in my life of late. Nothing here's been really hard--there have been bio-sf stories, but I think of them as softer than the space type SF stories.

To conform with the rest of the crowd, I ran my numbers for word count etc here. 34,000 words in 14 stories started or finished here. 6 workshopped, 2 Van Hoosen stories (more after I recover from here, I'm hoping. It's been too crazy here to manage to juggle everything.) , and a piece of flash fiction. So that's 9 finished, 5 in progress. One of which is nearly 2000, the rest of which were mostly just ideas/first pages. While here I've worked on 35 stories, some more seriously than others. Some just opened and fiddled with and closed. I don't have an easy way to measure how much I"ve written in them. This is also not counting revisions in a couple of my completed stories (legacy, sea change, Bough) either. I'm really pretty impressed with my production rate here. Hell, I'm damn impressed with my numbers. And for comparison's sake, I wrote about 200 emails, and 20,000 words in live journal.
