about time.
Jun. 3rd, 2002 01:55 amI"m so going to be dead. But 1100 words since 11 is nothing to sneeze at, right? and on this damn longterm stalled story. But it's been brewing for ages, and finally started percolating lately. I just redid the begining for the third time, and uncut a former character so he's back in the line up, as he'll work much better in this version than I'd been thinking. but now off to bed. I'll send the story to you if you want to see it, but I'm not posting it just yet. too early yet. first line currently is "She wasn't expecting a knock on the door less than a week after she and Tom had set up housekeeping clear on the other side of the US." I also worked on Hardwired, my Hard SF story (this one is the urban/high fantasy Paying the Piper), which has the line I love, "She'd loved the contrast more than the man--the pale cream of her skin next to his"

Jun. 3rd, 2002 12:37 pmI finished Declare. I really like Power's new stuff much more than his old stuff. I will take Drawing of the Dark with me, along with Blaycock's Paper Grail, but I'm not expecting much from it. It's not that there's anything wrong with the older stories--Stress of her Regard, On Stranger Tides, etc.--it's just that somehow they don't appeal. Maybe they're not complicated enough for me or something. I mean, I remember them. I certianly didn't hate them, but I've never had a need to go back and reread them like I've reread Last Call. Though I haven't had to reread Expiration Date or Earthquake Weather either, really, so I 'm not really sure that I have a point here. Anyways, I've decided, due to the fact that Declare is a hardback, that I'll just take Last Call (the new trade paperback, not my nice english trade paperback that's at my mom's) and Drawing.

Jun. 3rd, 2002 07:54 pmWhy, at 25, do I still say, "buh-bye" to finish a phone conversation? Am I three? And it's not just friends and such. I say it when I'm leaving messages for clients at NCES, when I'm talking to someone about renting the appartment, with everyone. On the plus side, no one else seems to notice. I just think it's so weird.
